Laura Dent

2016 – RISING STAR

Laura Dent is a two-time graduate of the University of Arizona; she holds a B.A. in Political Science, with minors in Latin American Studies and Spanish and Master’s degree in Public Administration. Laura began her professional career as Field Director for the Pima Area Labor Federation, the Southern Arizona subsidiary of the AFL-CIO. In this position she managed issue-based campaigns, union member education, and voter outreach efforts. She then spent time working as an organizer and Union Representative for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 99, the largest private sector union in Arizona.  Laura currently serves as Chief of Staff to Tucson City Council Member Regina Romero, an Arizona List endorsed elected official and the first Latina elected to the city council and the first woman to represent her district, Ward 1.

On top of her full time job, Laura is the Vice-President of the YWCA of Southern Arizona and serves as a member of the executive committee of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona. She is immediate past-president of Las Adelitas Arizona, a group dedicated to empowering and engaging Latinas in the political process. Arizona List is proud to honor Laura Dent as our Rising Star as we are so impressed with what she has done so far and we look forward to her great work in the future!
