Janet Marcotte

Janet served as YWCA Tucson’s Executive Director for over​ twenty-five years advocating for women and girls.  She created a nationally recognized model for YWCA’s across the country with mission-focused programs in women’s leadership, employment education, workforce development and racial justice.  Working with the Partnership for Women and Girls, she led programs to address poverty, inequality and violence against women.  She created a hate-crimes task force and created programming for Latina immigrant women that received statewide recognition. On top of that , she led the effort to design, fund and build the $4 million YWCA Frances McClelland Leadership Center in 2007.

After her “retirement,” Janet joined Fred DuVal’s campaign staff in August 2013 to lead his campaign efforts for Governor in Southern Arizona where she was a tremendous asset to the campaign.   In her spare time, Janet is an accomplished photographer and her touching photographs of the January 8th spontaneous memorials were published in a book “Together We Thrive” that is currently for sale raising money for anti-bullying programs and mental health awareness.  Janet currently serves as a member of Pima County Healthcare Benefits Trust Board, Board of Advisors for The Arizona We Want Institute, a program of the Center for the Future of Arizona, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, and is Board Treasurer of YWCA USA. For this amazing legacy to Southern Arizona, Arizona List is extremely proud to recognize Janet Marcotte as our Tucson honoree of 2015!
