Julie is a Minnesota native and first-generation college graduate. Earning both her Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s in Education degrees from the University of Minnesota. She has been an advocate for the well-being of children and their families in our communities since she began her career as a public-school educator in 1986. Her service to our community includes many assorted leadership roles, including serving 6 years on the Arizona Education Association Board of Directors, and presently serves as the vice-chair on the Family Promise of Greater Phoenix board of directors, addressing issues of family homelessness. Julie has held elected board leadership positions on the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board for 3 years. She prides herself on being able to make tough decisions while ensuring her fiduciary responsibilities. She and her husband, Brian, have raised their two children in Scottsdale. Julie is a person of high integrity, a thoughtful decision-maker, believes that those most impacted by the decisions should have input in the process, and remains future focused in solving the problems of our evolving society.
