Melody Hernandez

LD26 Arizona House of Representatives

Melody Hernandez was born and raised in the Southeast valley of Arizona to a first generation Mexican-American family. Stunned by violence plaguing our country on the news and in her community, Hernandez was called to help those in need. She has been working in emergency medical services for five years, where she currently is a paramedic. At Arizona State University, Hernandez was previously the Communications Director of GlobeMed, a student-run group that “aim[s] to create awareness about various global health issues.” In her spare time, she provides medical aid to asylum seekers in the community as needed. Hernandez has a deep history of service because she believes that we can all do our own part to make a difference. Her previous volunteer work included tutoring students with special needs and in emergency shelters supporting children experiencing homelessness and domestic violence. Activism for Hernandez started at a young age, having grown up attending demonstrations with her family supporting immigration reform and protesting police brutality. She is a proud union member.
