Garthanne De Ocampo

Garthanne De Ocampo was appointed to the Governing Board in 2017. Ms. De Ocampo had a fifty-year career as a public school educator. She served as a teacher, principal, and district-level administrator. She was instrumental in establishing all-day kindergartens, inclusionary pre-school programs, and the program to serve students with autism in the Phoenix Elementary District. She was also a member of the Arizona Department of Education team that wrote the initial Early Childhood Learning Standards. Additionally, she helped develop the assessment for the Early Childhood Certification. She is proud of being in the second group of teachers in Arizona to become National Board Certified. Ms. De Ocampo has also served on the Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board, the Saint Francis Xavier School Board and Parish Council, and the Arizona Education Association Board of Directors. Currently, she is a docent at the Desert Botanical Gardens, a Navigator at the Sky Harbor Airport, a member of the Phoenix Children’s Chorus Board of Directors, and a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children in foster care. Ms. De Ocampo and her husband have lived in the Simpson Neighborhood since 1977
